There are so many hotel options around the world that architects, designers and hoteliers are faced with an ever-increasing need to make their creation stand out as much as possible. Design experiments sometimes lead to unexpected results, when you look at them you want to close your eyes, shake your head and forget like a dream. However, as they say, beauty in the eyes of the beholder and even in ugly hotels can be full of guests.
Introducing top 10 ugliest hotels in the world according to The Telegraph. The full list includes 24 hotels, but we selected the most “attractive” of them.
10. Gate Dragon
Themed hotel in the form of a Chinese pagoda, surrounded by a completely European fortress wall. Located next to the E4 motorway near the town of Gävle (Sweden). He is the brainchild of the Chinese billionaire Jingchun Li. The construction of the Dragon Gate took over 10 years.
The absurd, almost prison "appearance" of the building, not to mention the 200 replicas of terracotta warriors, is unlikely to allow the hotel to win a beauty contest.
9. W Edinburgh
Last year, plans for an unusual hotel in Edinburgh received a green light, despite objections from local groups. Telegraph conducted a survey among readers about the design of the hotel and opinions were divided: 29% spoke positively about the project, 16% saw some potential, while 55% thought the hotel looked “awful - like a giant, ugly ice cream”.
8. Inntel Amsterdam Zaandam
The architect of this Dutch masterpiece was inspired by traditional green houses in Zaandam. It is not clear why he decided that a heap of miniature copies of such houses on top of each other would be a good idea.
7. Ryugyong
The 105-story hotel in North Korea earned such nicknames as “Doom Hotel” and “The World's Worst Building”. It is not yet in operation, although it is fully completed.
6. The Royal Towers, Atlantis Paradise Island
This is a whole complex of hotels in the Bahamas, which resembles a building from a Disney movie and is, in fact, a mini-city. It has water attractions, swimming pools, a dolphinarium, restaurants and many other places that are pleasant and necessary for visitors.
5. Hilton
The hotel in Manchester (UK) occupies half of the Beatham tower, which dominates the city skyline and looks like a huge Playstation, which fell on its side.
4. First World Hotel
The largest (as well as the most flashiest painted) hotel, not only in Malaysia, but also in the world, hospitably opened the doors of its 7.351 rooms for visitors. Presumably, the riot of color is intended to cheer guests up, but this is unlikely to improve the mood of those who prefer elegant color solutions to the option “splash all the paint on the wall and look at the result.”
3. Dog Bark Park Inn
Opens the top three hotels with the most ugly design in the world. Dog Bark Park Inn is located in Idaho and only a convinced bigfill wants to settle in it. The appearance of the establishment (two huge beagles) vividly reminds of expressionist pets.
2. The Standard
This gloomy gray building is located in Mitpacking in New York and is ready to offer its guests a rooftop bar, a winter ice rink, free Wi - Fi, and even free bike rental. Anything in order to divert attention from the tasteless facade.
1. Hotel El Algarrobico
The ugliest hotel was headed by an impressive building both in size and design in Almeria (Spain). It was supposed to open in 2006, but the Spanish authorities declared the construction illegal. Not because the building was too ugly, but because it was built too close to the sea, and inside the protected Cabo de Gata National Park. The hotel was supposed to be demolished in 2014, but this order was canceled, and construction can still be completed. Unfortunately for the eyes of visitors.
