Due to their motionless surface and various color shades of the lake, they show us some of the most mesmerizing qualities of water. AND the most beautiful lakes in the world - Real works of art from the generous Mother Nature. And although they can have different names (lake, lagoon, reservoir), they are all equally stunning and worth visiting.

  • 10. Laguna Colorado, Bolivia
  • 9. Titicaca, Peru and Bolivia
  • 8. Lake Geneva, Switzerland
  • 7. Xihu, China
  • 6. Crater, USA
  • 5. Nakuru, Kenya
  • 4. Tasman, New Zealand
  • 3. Inle, Myanmar
  • 2. Blaysko, Slovenia
  • 1. Baikal, Russia

10. Laguna Colorado, Bolivia

Folklore attributes the scarlet color of the Laguna-Colorado water to the spilled blood of the gods. However, this mineral lake received such an unusual shade due to the presence of red algae. Flamingos flying to the lake also contribute to all kinds of shades of red.

Laguna Colorado is surrounded by volcanoes, hot springs and bizarre rock formations.

9. Titicaca, Peru and Bolivia

The largest lake in South America and the highest navigable lake in the world (3821 meters above sea level) is a place with sparkling blue water, cozy villages and snow-capped mountains.

It is very popular among tourists and is home to the Uros tribe, which creates whole islands from reeds. Such islands do not wander around the lake from place to place, they are attached to a large stone or log stuck in the bottom.

8. Lake Geneva, Switzerland

If you are heading from Geneva Airport to the Swiss Alps, you will have the pleasure of seeing one of the most beautiful lakes on Earth.

The events associated with it, as well as lovely views inspired many creative natures. Among them: artist Mikhail Erassi, the band Deep Purple (song Smoke on the Water) and "mother of the Frankenstein monster", writer Mary Shelley.

7. Xihu, China

One of the most beautiful lakes in the world and the surrounding area in Hangzhou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. The organization claims that Lake Xihu "has inspired famous poets, scientists, and artists since the 9th century."

6. Crater, USA

This crater lake is the deepest in the United States (594 meters). It was formed in the crater of the now inactive Mazama volcano and consists entirely of glacial runoff and precipitation, which determines its transparency and rich blue color.

5. Nakuru, Kenya

The top five most beautiful lakes in the world includes a place that hundreds of flamingos have chosen. And there you can often meet lions and leopards.

The increase in water levels in Nakuru over the past few years has led to a drop in the number of pink birds. However, this area is still a very popular attraction due to the diversity of fauna that it attracts. It is protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

4. Tasman, New Zealand

In some of the lakes, water can be not only in one aggregate state. And a striking example of this in every sense is Tasman Lake, located in the heart of Mount Cook National Park, at the foot of the Tasman Glacier. The lake, in fact, appeared as a result of the relatively recent retreat of this glacier to the north.

Lumps of ice regularly fall in Tasman, where for several weeks they “hide” in the form of icebergs, and gradually melt. Visitors to the national park can book day tours of the lake in special boats that will maneuver between icebergs, skirting sharp edges and allowing you to enjoy this rapidly disappearing beauty.

3. Inle, Myanmar

Traveling by boat on the freshwater Inle Lake is one of the best moments when visiting Burma. And not only thanks to the beauties of the lake itself. Local rowers are distinguished by the original rowing technique - they hold the paddle with one foot.

There is also a floating bazaar on the lake where you can buy handicrafts, silver jewelry, fabrics and other goods. And the local population grows products in floating gardens. These are mini-islands consisting of fertile swamp mass. They are held in place by sharp poles.

2. Blaysko, Slovenia

Pure cobalt-blue water, beautiful views of the Julian Alps and the fabulous Mariinsky Church on a tiny island in the shape of a tear - these are three reasons why Lake Blasko is one of the best tourist destinations in Slovenia.

The church has a “wish bell”, which not only lonely tourists, but also newlyweds, want to call, because the Mariinsky Church is a very popular place for weddings.

Bled Castle rises above the lake on a steep cliff - another important attraction of the country. Once upon a time there was the summer residence of Josip Broz Tito.

1. Baikal, Russia

This is one of the most beautiful places in Russia and the world. And Baikal - the deepest lake on Earth - in some places it reaches a depth of 1642 meters. Its clear water is inhabited by many species of fauna that are not found anywhere else in the world. For example, the lake is home to a unique freshwater Baikal seal, a relic of the Tertiary era, miraculously preserved to this day.

In winter, the lake becomes a real wonderland, with fishing, hot springs, and supernaturally clear ice, which turns Lake Baikal into the world's largest natural ice rink.
